Old Sunshine Road Water and Stormwater Upgrades

In May 2024, state lawmakers earmarked approximately $1.5 million for water and stormwater infrastructure improvements. At that time, the planning phase of the project was estimated to take six (6) to twelve (12) months. Unfortunately, due to the devastation experienced in Western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene, the planning process required additional time.

The Town is pleased to inform you that the project has now been officially awarded to Ledford and Parker, Inc., and marking of lines has already begun.

What to Expect:

  • You will see contractors in the area this week.
  • During construction, there will be times when portions of Old Sunshine Road will be reduced to one-way traffic or closed. Please plan accordingly.
  • Residents in the immediate area may experience additional dust and dirt. The construction crew will make every effort to minimize these impacts.
  • When new meters are installed, there will be disturbance to yards.
  • Short-term outages will be experienced when service lines are switched to the new line.
  • Until the project is completed, portions of the road will consist of broken pavement and will be temporarily patched with gravel. Upon completion of the project, Old Sunshine Road will be fully paved.
  • Updates will be provided on the Town’s Facebook page and website.

We understand this project will cause temporary disruptions, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as new water lines are installed and stormwater improvements are made to better serve our community.
