CHANGE OF ELECTION NOTICE TO RESIDENTS LIVING WITHIN CITY LIMITS
Due to NC Senate Bill 265, Increase Municipal Election Participation Act, passing on June 13, 2023, there will be no municipal election in November 2023.
Section 3.1.(b) of Senate Bill states: No municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Bostic in 2023. The terms of the three Commissioners serving on the effective date of this act whose terms are set to expire in 2023 shall be extended by one year. The terms of Mayor and the two Commissioners serving on the effective date of this act whose terms are set to expire in 2025 shall be extended by one year. Regular municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Bostic in even-numbered years beginning in 2024.
Mayor and Councilman seats are based on four-year terms. The impact of the bill in transitioning the election year to even years results in the current Board, Mayor and Councilman’s, terms being extended by one year.
